Crooked Kingdom Review

It's rare for a sequel to be just as good as the first book in the series. And for a book like Six of Crows (an amazing book and one of my favorites!), the expectations soar. But if I had to pick my favorite book out of the duology....I don't think I'd be able to! This book nearly destroyed me -in the best way possible.

Note: Upon another reread of Crooked Kingdom, I finally decided to post my review!

"When you can't beat the odds, change the game."

Crooked Kingdom, the sequel to Six of Crows, picks up right after the first book: Kaz and the Crows have just pulled off an impossible, sorry improbable, heist - breaking into the impenetrable Ice Castle. Coming back, they expected to see piles of "freedom, security, retribution" (or in simpler terms, money), yet instead, they find themselves back to fighting for their lives. This time, with old enemies, new enemies, and potentially new allies, the Crows fight to get revenge, money, and redemption, with a healthy dose of humor, surprising tricks up their sleeves, and of course, Kaz's cunningness and scheming face. Ketterdam doesn't know who's coming!

It's rare for a sequel to be just as good as the first book, but Crooked Kingdom somehow had everything I loved from Six of Crows! There's plenty of humor and banter, Kaz is still ten steps ahead of everyone else, even Wylan tries out scheming face, and we finally get to see the romances play out. I don't think I could pick a book I like better out of the duology!

However, this book...well it nearly destroyed me. I'm certainly not (and will probably never be) over the ending, and I also can't believe I've finished the duology!

Final thoughts: Crooked Kingdom proved that sequels can be just as good as the first in a series! These two books and characters will always have a place in my heart forever <3 And, most of all, I will never stop hoping or waiting for a sequel.
